I would just like to thank you for providing such an exciting and rewarding experience; I had the time of my life in the Dominican and I’m so grateful for all the memories I made and people I met.

“There were many other moments from my trip that I will hold in my heart and mind as I continue along my journey towards becoming a doctor. I learned the most about patient care and how that looks first-hand when you’re in a country that has minimal access to healthcare. I loved every minute of my experience with Global Health Leaders and accepted an offer to work for the company as an ambassador after my internship. I will be sharing my story and experiences with other interns in hopes that they will decide to create their own story with GHL. I’m truly grateful for the opportunities that GHL gave me to learn from inspirational and motivational healthcare providers, to take care of people in places with minimal access to healthcare, and to ultimately create global change for a healthier and happier world.”

“It has been a pleasure to be able to work in the environment that Golbal Health Leaders created.”

It has been a pleasure to be able to work in the environment that Global Health Leaders created. Through the experience in Dominican Republic, I was able to further my love for global health and humanitarian aid. The clinics showed me the true importance of assisting those who do not have accessible healthcare. This truly was the ultimate learning experience.

“Before coming on this trip I was wondering if medical school really was for me and if it was worth the effort and if I really wanted to treat patients. After spending a week in these clinics, treating these patients, and learning from these doctors, I know now, more than ever, that I am meant to be a doctor. Thank you GHL for allowing me to figure out what I really want to do and to give back in such a big way. Before coming on this trip I was wondering if medical school really was for me and if it was worth the effort and if I really wanted to treat patients. ” It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that this experience has solidified my passion to pursue a career as a doctor.”

During my transformative 7-day experience in the Dominican Republic, I have learned so much thanks to the guidance and support of the talented doctors and my wonderful peers on this journey.  I want to express special appreciation for the doctors whose medical expertise allowed me to gain a vast amount of knowledge through shadowing.  Additionally, I am grateful for the hands on instructions in correcting measurement of vitals and for the leadership for overseeing this amazing trip. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that this experience has solidified my passion to pursue a career as a doctor. My time as an intern with Global Health Leaders has been transformative and it has provided me with invaluable experiences and knowledge that will undoubtedly shame my future as a medical professional.

Serving a community that has such poor access to quality medical care services and lack of resources was eye opening. Being from Los Angeles, California witnessing intense poverty and hardship is nothing new to me, but I had never experienced such impoverishment. I’m happy that I was able to be a part of a genuine organization that aims to expand international healthcare resources. Exposure to patient vitals, delivering medications to families and children, patient centered care is an experience I will take with me throughout my medical journey. I was able to successfully deliver hundreds of medications to families and children in need. Additionally, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to shadow doctor patient consultations and be taught patient disease causation, nor take vitals of hundreds of patients.

“I will absolutely take this opportunity again if I am given it.”

This opportunity gave me the chance to do what I am passionate about in an even more challenging and self-developing kind of way that one would not usually get, just because its in another country. It is definitely worth it, and so beneficial.  I will absolutely take this opportunity again if I am given it.

"Belize is actively combating a range of health issues from common communicable diseases like influenza and HIV/AIDS to more region-specific illnesses such as Dengue and Chagas disease. The healthcare system, reliant on external funding, faces challenges in meeting the needs of its diverse and often rural population. Despite these challenges, there are concerted efforts to revamp health services and infrastructure, especially in under-served areas ."
