Program Overview

Join our medical research program abroad! This program aims to introduce students to the concepts of the lifecycle and execution of medical research projects in healthcare. We’re looking for motivated individuals to join us for five days working with local medical doctors for data collection and 15 weeks remote to work alongside an experienced advisor on a research project to publish the results. You’ll gain valuable research skills, work with a diverse team, and make a real difference in a community that needs it most.

Training and Education

This program includes six weeks of training before travel, eight days in the country, and 9-weeks post-travel training and research paper completion. Training topics include:

  • Travel safety
  • Cultural norms
  • Healthcare systems in the country
  • Common conditions treated.
  • How to set up and operate a temporary medical clinic
  • Operating a temporary pharmacy
  • Conducting patient intake
  • Obtaining patient vitals
  • Creating your research question
  • Ethical review of your research project
  • Conducting literature review
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis
  • Drafting and reviewing a research paper
  • Ethical and peer review of your research paper
  • Publishing guidelines and how to submit for publication.

This program will guide students through all necessary steps for creating, conducting, and documenting a short-term research project. Successful student interns will have a completed, peer-reviewed research paper ready for submission for publication. This program does not submit papers for publication nor guarantee publication of the report.
